Educating Our Children This Independence Day
Educating children has always been an art, and art is made exceptional by dedicated and skilled artists. Educating children who have no means of attending classes due to financial or circumstantial factors is a necessity. The actual barrier to providing education for such kids includes the applied quality of education and the desired output. NGOs who work on educating such children should possess a keen vision that helps to provide a consistent, quality education,
The mission of Parwaaz has always been to provide a quality education that helps the child develop and better themselves. We at Parwaaz aim to provide virtual teaching to school children in J&K and Ladakh. For reaching out to students we mostly rely on our network which includes teachers/principals from a school or a local leader such as the village Sarpanch. Another way we have onboarded a bulk of students is through personal visits to villages. Once onboard, we maintain a database of all students’ details and subject preferences. With 1800+ volunteer applications for teaching and their varied preferences along with the requirements of each student, we need to create the right student-teacher duo.
The preferred subject, and the time they can dedicate to the preferred timings is important and helps us connect the right volunteer to each student. Even though the method is not without its flaws we sure have made the procedure more reliable.
To enhance the way children learn
Educating children holistically requires the involvement of various factors that help to develop and improve their cognitive abilities and skills.
1) Creating a positive learning environment for the child is a crucial factor as it helps the child concentrate and retain what he has learned. A safe supporting environment is necessary with minimal distractions.
2) Individual efficiency of the child – Each child has his/her skills and efficiency. Recognizing the unique needs of each child independently will help to deliver a more personalized approach to learning. Each child will have his/her way of learning (auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc.), so recognizing their learning patterns and providing adaptive teaching methods are necessary for quality education.
3) Critical thinking and problem solving – Providing tasks to solve independently or through teamwork, asking open-ended questions, and holding discussions and debates help the child formulate solutions and improve overall cognitive development. Integration of fun projects and playful activities will help in the creative development of the child
4)Parental involvement – collaborating with parents is crucial in educating a child. Keeping them informed and involved will help reinforce positive development in the child. The involvement of parents will also increase the chance of proper home support for the child’s education.
5) Positive reinforcement, constructive feedback, and encouragement no matter how small they are helping to build motivation and confidence and further deepen the student-teacher relationship. Praising effort, perseverance, and the willingness to learn from mistakes will further increase the child’s involvement.
